Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the fibrous tissue (plantar fascia) along the bottom of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes. It is one of the most common causes of heel pain.
Common symptoms include stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. The pain is typically worst with the first few steps after awakening, although it can also be triggered by long periods of standing or when you stand up after sitting.
Most people who have plantar fasciitis recover in several months with conservative treatment, including resting, icing the painful area, and stretching. Using proper footwear, orthotics (insoles), and avoiding walking barefoot can also help significantly.
